Trouble is we no longer live in a free society in the U.S. A recent study concluded that even China has more freedom than do the citizens of the United States. President W. Bush greatly curtailed our liberties, so much so that many had tears of joy and relief at Obama’s promises of hope and change. Though he came to power decrying the secret actions of Bush, Obama has embraced and extended many of the same activities, and he has continued the process of stripping us of our liberties one by one.

Hello Dave; you’re right—we overreached a little there. We should say that the British came to understand this power of occupied people to resist by the midway point of the war, and that helped them shift to preserving their sugar islands rather than continue to send troops and spend money in war against the 13 colonies.

I question that the British at the time “understood that an occupied people almost always win wars of attrition because they have the motivation and the resources to resist for many, many years.” By 1775 no one had successfully revolted against a European power, including Britain. Even Britain’s enemies, France and Spain, waited until the colonists won significant victories before joining the war.

Problem: It’s a great movie, highly entertaining and you have a simplistic, knee-jerk, revisionist and myopic judgment of what is depicted in it.

I will watch it over and over and over and over again and so will millions of others. It is a classic.
